The Long Beach State 49ers started hot but faltered late in a 74-68 Monday night loss to the Pacific Tigers at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

The loss dropped the 49ers to 3-9 on the season, with this one hurting more than their other losses so far. After trailing by as many as 15 in the second half, the Tigers caught up and secured the win to climb to 8-4.

Long Beach State opened the game up shooting 6-10 from behind the arc. However, their shooting stroke eventually waned, as they scored 19 points over the last 16 minutes of the game.

Temidayo Yussuf was productive with his third double-double of the season leading the way for the 49ers. He had 14 points and 10 rebounds. The 49ers’ leading scorer Deishuan Booker struggled mightily. He went 0-6 from the field and eight points total from the free throw line.

Guards Bryan Alberts and Jordan Roberts connected on three deep balls each, both scoring in double figures. Edon Maxhuni also hit three from behind the arc, finishing with nine points in the contest.

The Tigers rallied off a 13-0 run over a three-minute span, cutting the 49ers lead to two with 12 minutes to play. Eventually, the play of Junior guard Lafayette Dorsey was too much for Long Beach State down the stretch.

The guard scored a game-high 31 points, including 14 in a row at one point for the Tigers. He was 10-10 from the free throw line and 3-6 from the three-point line.

Forward Anthony Townes and guard Roberto Gallinat combined for 30 points off the bench for the Tigers. Overall the Pacific bench outscored Long Beach State 35-23, proving to be a slight difference.

The loss marks Long Beach State’s seventh in a row on the road. Their road record stands at 0-7 as they head back home for a two-game slide.

After a ten-day vacation, the team will look to get back in the winning column against Pepperdine at the Pyramid.
