Indy Fuel vs Wheeling Nailers Recap

The Indy Fuel finished the month of November with a trip to West Virginia to take on the Wheeling Nailers. The Indy Fuel were very consistent throughout the month, alternating wins and losses every game. Keeping with the pattern, the Fuel, of course, lost this contest to the Nailers by a score of 6-2.

First Period

The Fuel opened the scoring just three and a half minutes into the game. Defenseman Alex Brooks fired a shot past Wheeling goalie Danny Tirone for his first goal of the season. Matt and Ryan Rupert contributed the assists on the goal. In the last five minutes of the period, Indy’s Robert Powers went to the box for slashing. With just over 20 seconds left on the penalty, Wheeling’s Renars Krastenbergs evened the score at 1 with his fourth goal of the campaign.

Second Period

The Nailers dominated the middle period, scoring three goals. Nick Saracino broke the tie that existed going into the period with a shot past the Fuel’s Matt Tomkins. The goal was his fifth of the season. Just over five minutes later, Kevin Spinozzi scored his fourth goal of the season, extending the Wheeling lead to 3-1. The Fuel would get one back as Radovan Bondra put his second goal of the season past Tirone. This cut the lead down to 3-2, but the Fuel would get no closer. Before the period ended, Olivier Labelle spent two minutes in the box for slashing. During the power play, the Nailers put another puck behind Tomkins. Zac Lynch got the credit for this one, his fifth of the season.

Third Period

The third period was quiet. The Fuel could not break through and score for a third time. The Nailers added two goals late in the period. The first was an empty net goal off the stick of Spinozzi, his second of the game and fifth of the season. The second came just 21 seconds later with Tomkins back in goal. The sixth and final goal of the game for the Nailers came from Mike Fazio, who scored his first goal of the year.

The Fuel travels to Toledo to take on the Walleye. Indy has handed Toledo two of their four total losses this season, one in overtime and one in regulation. This will be the Fuel’s first trip to Toledo this season.
