The Temple Owls got a close win over Missouri, led by their guards, Quinton Rose, and Shizz Alston. Temple’s first-half dominance kept them afloat during the second half, as they snuck by with the win, 79-77.

The Owls got out to a big ten-point lead heading into halftime. Fran Dunphy and company were dominating early on, but Mizzou fought back. The first half started off slow for the Owls, as they were tied for much of the half. It was the turnovers and up-tempo offense that got them a ten-point lead heading into the half.

The Missouri Tigers got out to a huge run after halftime, as they had all of the momentum. They crept within four with 17 minutes left, the two then battled it out, and Temple had to fend off the relentless effort by Mizzou. With a little over seven minutes left, the Owls led 70-58, but the Tigers did not give up, trimming that lead down to just a two-point game with 15 seconds left. Shizz Alston sealed the victory with free throws to put them up by four. A shot by Mizzou’s Mark Smith was good just before the game ended, but it was not enough to take down the Owls.

Quinton Rose was Temple’s lead scorer with 18 points, and Shizz Alston had 15 points and six assists. Mizzou was led by Mark Smith who had the most points in the contest with 19. Both teams had four players in double digits.

The Owls might have gotten the win, but it was not easy. Aside from a few times when the Owls led by 10, the game was mostly tied up or only separated by a few buckets. The constant forced turnovers by the Owls helped them gain the edge and eventually the win. They forced 15, versus the five turnovers they committed.

With this win, the Owls move to an impressive 6-1 to start the season. They are 2-1 away from home, and their road trip continues. They will play St. Joe’s on December 1, and then #23 Villanova on December 5 before returning home on the 12th.
