UCF Knights extend winning streak to 22 with 35-24 win over Navy

Knights avoid a letdown, Top Navy 35-24

ORLANDO– The UCF Knights (9-0) extended the nation’s longest winning streak to 22 games by avoiding a letdown against Navy (2-8).

Once again, the UCF Knights exceeded 30 points which is something they have accomplished in each victory of this winning streak. Starting quarterback McKenzie Milton was not only impressive today, but he was extremely efficient. Milton was sharp in his second game since sitting out a road win over East Carolina with an undisclosed injury. The junior from Kapolei, Hawaii, hit 10 of his first 11 passes for 106 yards, completing throws to seven different receivers. He has at least one TD pass in 22 consecutive games. He finished the day 17 of 21 with 200 yards passing and accounted for three touchdowns, two through the air and one on the ground.

Even though it’s November 10th, it’s still warm in Central Florida as high temperatures pushed into the upper 80’s. The Navy Midshipmen got off to a sluggish start before putting together scoring drives in the second half which resulted in the final score (35-24) looking more respectable than it actually was.

Navy finishes a three-game stretch which feature losses against Notre Dame, Cincinnati and UCF. A week after being limited to a season-low 124 yards rushing in a 42-0 road loss at Cincinnati, Navy got one of the nation’s most productive running attacks back on track. The Midshipmen rolled up 374 yards total offense, all of it rushing, but it wasn’t enough to match firepower with UCF’s explosive offense led by their Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback.

Now, Coach Heupel and his players say they’re turning their focus to No. 25 Cincinnati who will be there toughest opponent to date and comes to Orlando this Saturday for a crucial AAC test. It will be UCF’s first matchup against a top 25 team this season.

As for poll implications, it’s hard to believe the Knights will move up considering all teams in the top 10 are currently winning. The good news for the Knights is, in the next few weeks they will have a chance to play Cincinnati and South Florida and if they continue to win it’s a matter of time until they move up in the polls.

Can they ultimately crack the top four? The quick and short answer is yes but it would take a lot of upsets to teams in the top 10 teams for that to occur and that’s the harsh reality that the 22 straight wins UCF Knights face today.
