Fort Wayne dominates early on with a combined four goals in the first and second period

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indy Fuel (4-4-0-0) fall to the Fort Wayne Komets (2-5-0-0) to hand Fort Wayne their second win of the season at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum and strengthen their 2-0 record against the Fuel.

Jamie Schaafsma opened the door for the Komets when confusion in front of the net allowed a rebound off of Anthony Petruzzelli to bounce past Matt Tompkins at 7:46 in the first period. Garrett Laad followed shortly after with a slapshot from the left circle that buried the puck in the back of the net.

Neil Manning notched his second goal of the season when he tipped in a dagger from Quentin Shore that allowed the Fuel to get on the board with five minutes left in the second period. The efforts would go unmatched as the Komets were able to further their lead at the beginning of the third period after J.C. Campagna came bolting out of the penalty box after serving his two-minute penalty for hooking and fired a breakaway goal that soared over Tompkins’ shoulder.

Olivier Labelle tallied his fourth goal of the season converting on a three-on-five man advantage with two minutes remaining in the game. It would prove to be too much for the Fuel and the Komets snapped their five-game losing streak.

Garett Laad found the net twice with his first goal of the season at 8:37 in the first period and 13:14 in the second. Marc-Olivier Roy also contributed to the Komets efforts with a goal at 7:16, his fourth of the season.

While the score was uneven the shots on goal were fairly consistent throughout the game, ending with the Fuel tallying 35 and the Komets 37. The two teams combined for a total of 15 penalties and 47 penalty minutes.

Two games into their three games in three days stretch of the season, Indy takes on the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena on Saturday.
