The Fuel hit the road yesterday for their first road game of the 2018 – 2019 season. Unfortunately, the outcome is not what they wanted, with a loss of 7-2 to the Kansas City Mavericks. This was the first of four matchups between the two teams this season.
First Period
The first-period action started out with a Fuel power-play goal. Dufour had his first game of the season, but what came after that was unfortunate for the Fuel. The Mavericks scored four goals through the rest of the inning. The last three of the inning were scored within the last five minutes. The goals came from Dziurzynski, Carzo, Ernst, and Carzo once again. Carzo’s first goal of the game came shorthanded and were his third and fourth goals of the season. Dziurzynski and Ernst had their first goals of the season that night. All of this goal scoring prefaced an action free second period where there was only one cross-checking penalty from Watson. Tomkins saved all 16 shots he faced that period.
Third Period
Moynihan started out inside the penalty box within the first 70 seconds of the period. This gave Kansas City a chance to add another goal to the box score, and they did. VanWormer took advantage of their power play and added another tally for his team. It was his third goal of the season. The Mavericks tallied on another goal just a few minutes after their last goal. Kilmek scored his first goal of the season, allowing Kansas City to go up 6-1 over Indy. Shore from the Fuel would retaliate with a goal of this own, but it just would not be enough. Dziurzynski would score again, putting the nail in the coffin for the Mavericks win over the Fuel.
