The last week in MLB was about a starting pitcher who makes the wrong type of history in the playoffs, a team in the American League is having discussions about signing a player long-term, and a club will be looking for a new general manager in 2019.
Boston Red Sox Starter David Price Postseason Struggles Continue
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher David Price had a dreadful outing in game two of the American League Division Series against the New York Yankees.
He lasted just 1 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on three hits, including two walks and zero strikeouts. The Red Sox lost the game 6-2 and the series shifts to New York for game three tomorrow.
Price’s teams now have a 0-10 record in his 10 career starts in the postseason. Of the 70 pitchers in MLB history with at least 10 starts in the playoffs, Price is the only one whose team hasn’t won a game, per ESPN Stats & Info.
The Yankees defeat the Red Sox 6-2 to even the #ALDS at 1-1.

Price threw the ball well for the Red Sox during the regular season, as indicated by his 3.58 ERA in 176 innings (30 starts) with 177 strikeouts and a 9.1 SO/9.
This has been the case for the left-hander throughout his career, by posting a 3.25 ERA in 11 seasons.
However, the script is flipped October as he has compiled a 5.28 ERA in 18 career playoff games (10 starts).
Price is an extremely talented pitcher, and it’s weird to see him struggle mightily in the postseason.
Oakland Athletics Have Had Early Discussions About Khris Davis Extension
The Oakland Athletics have had some early discussions regarding a contract extension with designated hitter Khris Davis.
Athletics general manager Billy Beane told reporters a couple of days ago they’ve had some preliminary conversations about keeping him around longer, per Ben Ross of NBC Sports California.
Davis had a very productive season at the plate as he accumulated a .247 batting average and .847 OPS with 28 doubles, 123 RBIs and led the majors with 48 home runs in 151 games.
This marked the third straight year that Davis had at least 40 homers and 100 RBIs. He’s under team control for next year but will be a free agent in 2020.
It’s very logical for the A’s to sign Davis to a long-term deal considering he’s one of the best sluggers in the AL.
Baltimore Orioles Part Ways with General Manager Dan Duquette
The Baltimore Orioles had a disastrous 2018 season, by having a 47-115 record and finishing 61 games out of first place.
The team will be looking for a new general manager next season as they have parted with general manager Dan Duquette, per Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

The club also fired manager Buck Showalter, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Duquette has had a lengthy career in MLB.
He worked in scouting and player development for the Milwaukee Brewers, was the assistant general manager of the Montreal Expos, and was the general manager for the Boston Red Sox before the Orioles hired him prior to the 2012 season.
The Orioles made the playoffs in three of seven seasons under Duquette; they advanced as far as the American League Championship Series in 2014.
However, the club has finished in the last place in the AL East in each of the last two years.
The Orioles are going through a rebuilding process as they were very active at last year’s trade deadline to acquire young talent.
Hopefully, the next general manager and manager can guide the team in the right direction.
