After a great opening victory and a near comeback against Clemson last week, the Aggies of Texas A&M steamrolled the UL Monroe Warhawks 48-10 at Kyle Field.

There is one thing that has A&M football fans buzzing this year and that is great quarterback play. In fact, more consistent quarterbacking. This is something that has failed the Aggies the last couple of seasons. However, Jimbo Fisher has this team gleaming with confidence, especially sophomore QB Kellen Mond.

As a matter of fact, Mond had himself a game to remember and build on. He went 16/24 passing, for 210 yards, and one touchdown. It was an overall balanced attack from the air courtesy of the Aggie receivers. There was also 128 rushing yards on the part of Trayveon Williams and another 67 rushing yards from Mond also helped.

Overall, the Aggies looked great on both sides of the ball. However, there are a few things to note from this performance. For starters, UL Monroe is far from top competition, but these are the same Aggies that fell in a close game to the second best-ranked team in the country, the Clemson Tigers. After a hard fought game, the Aggies fell 28-26 at home. Mond performed well and Williams also had a solid game that night. But the biggest thing A&M needs to work on is penalties.

The Aggies had five penalties called against them for a total of 55 yards. If A&M is going to compete against Alabama and survive, the penalties must be minimized. Here are some of the highlights from the game.

Among other things the Aggies did well was keeping the turnovers at zero. In fact, turnovers are something that has constantly killed A&M against Alabama. What the Crimson Tide need to be aware of is that this is proving to be a different Aggie squad.

While the defense has been solid for the most part this season, there is still much work to be done. However, this defense is young and ready to take on the challenges that await next week.

Takeaways and preview for next week

While this victory is great, the Aggies have much work left to do. Against Alabama, the A&M defense has not one, but two quarterbacks to be aware of. Those guys are Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa. The goal is for Jimbo’s defense to hold up while Kellen Mond and the Aggie offense work against a weaker Bama defense than in years past. Nonetheless, going up against the best team in the country is a tall task.

Expect the Aggies to be underdogs, but expect a physical game and for this one to be closer than others predict it will be. The Texas A&M Aggies will be at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa to faceoff against the Alabama Crimson Tide at 2:30 P.M.

Fun Fact: The last time Texas A&M beat Alabama was in Tuscaloosa back in 2012., 29-24, their first year in the SEC. The QB of that game? None other than Johnny Manziel. Since that victory, the Aggies are 0-5 against the Crimson Tide.
