The 2017-18 season will come to a close today with a game at Chicago, but not before two home games against the Mystics and Sky. The Fever lost to the Mystics 76-62 and lost in double overtime to the Sky, 115-106. Neither the Fever or Sky will be making an appearance in the postseason this year, making this matchup that much less intense. The same goes on the other hand with the Mystics who are currently a projected three seed.

On Wednesday night’s game, Victoria Vivians led the team in minutes and was second on the team in the points category with 12 points. The only Fever to top that is Natalie Achonwa with 15 points. Elena Delle Donne and Kristi Toliver both outscored Achonwa with 25 and 19 points, respectively.  Achonwa also made all five of her free throws and five of her seven field goals. Unfortunately for the Fever, the Mystics are undefeated in the whole month of August, and that clearly shown through on the scoreboard.

Something we hoped to see improvement on by Saturday’s game is the Fever’s shooting inside the arc. Erica Wheeler stands out the most from Wednesday’s game, making 1-13 field goals. She did try to recover and makeup from her poor shooting, but did not do much only making 4-18 field goals. Again, I bring up Achonwa’s name as a leader on the team for Wednesday’s game because she went 5-7 inside the arc. For Saturday’s game, she shot 6-13.

After a seemingly unentertaining Wednesday night game, the Fever stepped up their game for the home crowd. It seemed as though the Fever had paved their way to their sixth win of the season; however, the Chicago Sky sent the game into double overtime. Although the game ended in a loss for the Fever, not all was a loss. Five Fever players scored double digits points, and Achonwa ended the game with a double-double. The scoreboard may not have shown the numbers the Fever wanted, but all in all, it was a game to be proud of.
