STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Spinners (29-24) completed a three-game road trip in style with a close 2-0 victory over the Staten Island Yankees (26-25).
Thaddeus Ward delivered four shutout innings to start to evening. He struck out a career-high six batters while allowing only one hit on the evening.
The Spinners offense struck first in the top of the fourth when Lane Milligan drove in Tyler Dearden with an RBI double to make it 1-0.
Hunter Haworth spun four innings of scoreless relief en route to picking up his third win of the season. He allowed only one hit, walked none, and struck out a trio of Yankees.
Milligan continued his big night with a leadoff double in the seventh inning. Ramfis Berroa later brought him home with a key insurance run for the Spinners. On the evening, Milligan was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, an RBI, and a run scored.
Andrew Politi closed the door on the Yankees and picked up his fifth save of the season after striking out two in his lone inning of work.
The Spinners return home on Saturday for a brief two-game series with the Brooklyn Cyclones before taking off for the All-Star break. Chris Machamer takes the mound with first pitch scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
