With just three weeks left until the playoffs begin, things are getting tight in the league. Division and wild-card races are still up for grabs, not to mention individual awards as well. Here’s a look at this week’s happenings in the NYPL.

Finding a pitcher to give the ball to every fifth day can be a bit of an adventure.  In Batavia, that issue does have an answer. His name is Alberto Guerrero, who is tied for the league lead in games started with ten. Guerrero is also tied for third in innings pitched with 49.2.  He has the fourth lowest batting average as a starter, .217 (40-for-184), and is fifth in Highest SO/9IP Ratio at 8.52 (47 K’S in 49.2 IP).

In the bullpen, the Vermont Lake Monsters have found a reliable arm. Jose Mora has the lowest batting average for relievers at this stage of the season at .157 average (13 hits in 83 At-Bats). He is also fourth, in highest SO/9IP ratio at 12.13 (31 SO in 23.1 innings pitch). Mora’s overall average against of .210 is fifth-best among all active pitchers.

Vermont is not the only team with bullpen help as Hudson Valley can make that call. They bring in Simon Rosenblum-Larsson. He has the highest SO/ 9IP ratio at 14.14 ( 33 strikeouts in 21 innings), second in lowest BB-IBB/9 IP ratio at 1.29 (3 in 21.0 innings), and is second in fewest baserunners/9IP Ratio at 7.29 (17 in those 21 innings).

The Lowell Spinners, have gone through some recent roster moves. One player who has stayed and become a force in the lineup is Devlin Granberg. He is ninth in batting at .301, second in doubles with 12, fourth in runs scored with 29, and fifth in on-base percentage at .392.

Mahoning Valley is getting middle of the lineup power from Nelson Hosea. He is third in the league with seven home runs and tied for second in runs batted in with 30. Hosea is third in slugging percentage at .503. As you would expect from a power hitter, strikeouts are something you just have to live with. Hosea is third in strikeouts with 80.
