Boston College Football Preseason Practice Report No. 6

First time in camp crowd noise and officials were used

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The second day in full pads for the Boston College football program included the use of the play clock, an officiating crew on the field and crowd noise pumping through the Fish Field House speakers. AJ Dillon got the first offense vs. defense session started with a 15-yard run. Quarterback-turned-running back John Fadule opened the next series by picking up back-to-back first downs; first on the ground and then through the air. The second series ended with a Mike Palmer interception; his first of two on the day. Linebacker Davon Jones ended a series with a PBU on third down.

Matt McDonald guided the offense on its first scoring drive of the day. Despite being set back by a penalty, McDonald threaded the needle on a completion to Christian McStravick and David Bailey followed with a first down run to enter the red zone. On third-and-10, McDonald once again found McStravick, who made the catch at the two-yard line and tip-toed the final steps down the sideline into the end zone.

The first team offense nearly went three-and-out, but a completion from EJ Perry to Tommy Sweeney on third-and-long kept the drive alive. However, the drive was stymied at the 35-yard line when Bryce Morais made a stop in the backfield on fourth-and-two.

McDonald and McStravick hooked up again on a 25-yard catch-and-run a possession later. Earlier in the series, Patrick Brown picked up a crucial first down reception on third-and-six.

In the second offense vs. defense session of the morning, McDonald quarterbacked the first team. However, McStravick quickly became a favorite target of Perry on the second team with a pair of receptions, including one deep ball down the sideline, on their first series together. Lukas Denis provided the defense with a spark, coming up with a sack on a safety blitz. Jeff Smith came up two plays later with a pass deflection at the line to get off the field. The defense held on to the momentum; ending the session with a pick by Elijah Jones.

Boston College resumes training camp Friday morning before the first scrimmage of camp on Saturday.
