Lowell Spinners have five going to NYPL All-Star Game

On Tuesday morning, the New York Penn League announced the player’s name to this year game. Which will take place, on Tuesday night August 14 at State College, PA.

The Lowell Spinners will be well represented with five players being named to the game. However, only four of them will play in the game. Those who will head to State College are outfielder Tyler Dearden, and infielders Xavier LeGrant, Korby Batesole, and Devlin Granberg. A fifth member, reliever Rio Gomez, was promoted to the Greenville Drive after being named an All-Star.

Tyler Dearden has picked it up as of late batting .297 with a .813 OPS and is tied for the team-lead in home runs with three on the season. He is in the top 10 in the league in doubles with ten.

First Baseman Devlin Granberg, s hitting .301 at this stage of the season. The average places him 10th in the batting race. He is third in doubles with 12, fourth in runs scored with 29, and fifth in on-base percentage at .392.

Korby Batesole has split time between shortstop and third base this summer for the Spinners. In his 24 combined games on the left side of the infield, he has made only seven errors. He is hitting .284 this season and has an interesting stat. None of his 23 hits have been for extra-bases.

Xavier LeGrant has also been splitting time at two different positions. In LeGrant’s case, second base and third base have been his defensive positions. In 27 games (12 at second and 15 at third) LeGrant has made only three miscues. He is hitting .270 on the year and does have eleven extra-base hits (nine doubles and two home runs).

Rio Gomez, before his call-up to Greenville, was pitching mostly out of the Spinners bullpen. His record was 2-0 with a 1.65 earned run average. He made 11 appearances with one start. Gomez threw 27 innings, giving up 19 hits, and six runs of which five were earned. He had 24 strikeouts to go along with four walks and one home run ball.

This is the third time in the last four seasons that at least five Spinners have been selected to the New York Penn League All-Star game.
