SPINNERS DOUBLE DOWN ON DOUBLEDAYS

Red-hot offense carries Lowell to 6-1 victory

LOWELL, MA – Lowell (12-14) continued to build momentum on their long road trip with another victory over the Auburn Doubledays (14-11).

Jarren Duran led off the game with yet another triple, his league-leading seventh of the season. Three-time All-Star Brandon Phillips then brought him home on a sacrifice fly to put Lowell on the board.

The offense piled on in the top of the third after Duran drew a leadoff walk, Cole Brannen singled and a Trey Ganns double brought home a pair of runs, his first RBIs of the season. Catcher Kole Cottam then doubled to right field to push the Spinners lead to 4-0.

Jonathan Ortega singled with one out in the top of the fifth and came in to score on a Dylan Hardy single to make it 5-0. After being moved over to third by Xavier LeGrant, Hardy scored on a wild pitch to make it a six-run ball game.

Starting pitcher Eduard Bazardo dazzled once again. In six innings, he struck out six, allowed three hits, an earned run, and no walks.

Danny Bethea threw a scoreless inning of relief and Alberto Franco closed out the game with two innings of relief.

With their third consecutive win, the Spinners look to finish the sweep in Auburn on Friday with left-hander Brian Brown on the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
