2018 NFL Draft: Tennessee Titans Post Draft Look

For GM Jon Robinson, the job of rebuilding the Titans is a process. He wants to be sure that with all he learned in New England, and all the expectations on his shoulders, he gets this right. Last year, Corey Davis was the fifth pick overall in the first round. Adoree Jackson went with the 18th pick in the same round, and in the third round, they picked up promising tight end, Jonnu Smith. All three are looking for breakout seasons in 2018.

In this year’s draft, Robinson picked up what some consider two first-round talent linebackers in Rashaan Evans and Harold Landry. Before the draft, Robinson was trying to make sure that he got one of these guys and ended up getting both. Pretty good move in a draft that saw only four picks this year due to choices made to acquire their top three picks.

The message that Robinson sent was that he has little issues about where his offense is currently and where it is going. It was also no secret that the Titans needed a lot of help in their linebacking corps. Some may say that a receiver was needed, but most experts gave Tennessee a good grade for what they got.

It looked like Evans might wind up in New England but giving up their fourth and picking up a sixth got them a player that should start right away. Landry got 16.5 sacks two years ago and will be ready when it’s time to take his spot. He has a knack for getting to the ball and creating turnovers.

In the fifth round, they picked up Arizona safety, Dane Cruiksank, and he is going to compete for a spot in the defensive backfield. He loves to hit and should make an impact on special teams right away.

With that pick in the sixth round, they welcomed Washington State QB Luke Falk. He does not have a cannon for an arm, but he sure is accurate, and with Blaine Gabbert as the number two, he may have a shot at that spot.

Of course, they have now made Derrick Henry the feature back, and added Dion Lewis to the mix. The pair should make it interesting for QB Marcus Mariota. He will be used much more by new offensive coordinator, Matt LaFleur. It will be interesting to see what he does with Mariota after his success with Jared Goff in Los Angeles.

After a berth in the postseason for the first time in a decade, to go with a win in the playoffs, the Titans are looking to challenge Jacksonville for the AFC South. The key will be keeping Mariota healthy first and foremost. Henry will now have to show that he can be a number one back in this league and the young receivers, Davis and Taywan Taylor, must be ready to make the impact they are expected to make.
