Allen Returning for Senior Season at Boston College

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior defensive end Zach Allen has decided to return to Boston College for his senior season and will not enter the 2018 NFL Draft. The Connecticut native was one of two defensive linemen nationally with over 100 tackles in 2017.

“Zach loves our football program and we are happy to have him back for his senior year,” head coach Steve Addazio said. “Our whole team has great chemistry and they are excited about where we are going. I know how important earning a degree is to Zach and his family, and he will leave BC with his degree.”

Allen wreaked havoc all season from his defensive end position. He started 13 games and finished second on the team with 100 tackles. He led BC with six sacks and his 15.5 tackles-for-loss ranked tied for 10th in BC single-season history.

“This was a very difficult decision,” Allen said. “The main reason to come back to BC was we have a ton of talent returning and I love playing with my teammates. Next year can be a special team and I want to be part of it.”

Allen received feedback from the college advisory committee with a consensus second-round grade.

“There are still skills I want to develop to be a first-round pick, and our coaches, particularly Coach Pasqualoni, are the best at helping me to reach that goal,” Allen added. “I really love Boston College; it truly is a great place. Playing in the NFL is my lifelong dream and I’m totally committed to playing there. The NFL will still be there next year, but I only have one more year to experience college and get my degree.”

Allen was named the defensive recipient of the 79th annual George “Bulger” Lowe Award, “New England’s Heisman Trophy” and one of America’s oldest college football accolades. Allen earned honorable mention All-ACC honors from the league’s head coaches and media members as well.

A CoSIDA all-district academic selection, Allen has a 3.6 GPA and will receive his finance degree from Boston College next December.

Boston College returns nine starters on offense and seven starters on defense in 2018. The Eagles won five of their last six regular-season games in 2017 en route to the team’s fourth bowl appearance in the previous five seasons under Addazio.
