Only three weeks left to go on the 2017 NFL schedule!
The theme for week 15 is the quarterback carousel around the league. It started on Thursday night when starter turned backup turned outcast Brock Osweiler lead the Denver Broncos to a pointless victory over the Colts in Indianapolis. As the quarterback merry-go-round continues in Denver, John Elway may end up signing Osweiler to a short term deal as he wanted to begin with back in the 2015 season.
The worst quarterback news for any contending team came when MVP candidate Carson Wentz tore his ACL on a scrambling touchdown which was ultimately called back due to a penalty. Unfortunately for Wentz and the Eagles, his athletic ability may end up costing the franchise from making that Super Bowl run Philly fans were banking on. It will be up to Nick Foles, who was once the starter for the Eagles, to keep the ship afloat and continue the progression toward postseason success.
While Eagles fans may have lost hope with Wentz going down for the remainder of the season, Packers faithful are drooling over the possibility that the return of Aaron Rodgers will catapult Green Bay back to the playoffs for a 9th straight season. Even if Rodgers were to lead the Pack to three straight victories to close out the regular season, they’d still need help in order to qualify for the tournament. Too many teams are already games ahead of Green Bay for a wild card spot like Seattle, Atlanta and Carolina who the Packers play this Sunday. Unless the Vikings lose their last three match-ups and the Packers win out, Green Bay will be watching the playoffs from home for the first time in almost a decade.
Other teams are going through similar issues with their signal caller. The Bills seem to be torn between the often injured veteran Tyrod Taylor and rookie Nathan Peterman. The Texans lost DeShaun Watson, then lost Tom Savage and are now down to third string quarterback T.J. Yates. This seems to happen to Bill O’Brien’s team every season. The Jets 4th round pick in 2015 will get another chance to wow Gang Green’s franchise. Bryce Petty will be under center for New York this weekend after Josh McCown’s season ended due to a broken hand in last weeks loss to the Broncos.
It just goes to show you how important the quarterback position is! Look at what happened to the Colts as Andrew Luck has been sidelined all season. DeShaun Watson seemed to be the solution to Houston’s problem but unfortunately he’s been injured and also out for the rest of the season. The Texans offense did a compete 180 after Watson’s season ended as did his rookie of the year aspirations. Unless you have the 86′ Bears defense or the Ray Lewis led Ravens squad, every team needs a top-tier quarterback in order to hoist the Lombardi Trophy come February.
