The Miami Heat have had quite the season this year so far. Although their record is 10-9 and they sit at 8th place in the Eastern Conference, they have recently been dominating in their last few games.

Last Wednesday, the Heat ended the Boston Celtics’ incredible 16-game winning streak by defeating them by a score of 104-98 at American Airlines Arena. It was a close game until the end and both teams fought to stay in it. Heat shooting guard, Dion Waiters, sunk two huge three-pointers in the final moments of the game to shock the Boston Celtics after a long run. Goran Dragic also had a great game, scoring 27 points of his own. There were moments in the game where the Celtics were trailing by as many as 18 points, but then Boston went on a 13-0 run in the fourth quarter to put themselves behind by one point with a score of 91-90. As the Celts have proven multiple times this season, a game is never over for them regardless of how much they may be trailing. The Heat went into the game determined to win, and they displayed that positive energy on the court, especially on the offensive end. It was a great victory for the Heat that I think will help them keep their momentum for the rest of the season.

After defeating the Celtics, Miami continued to be on a roll, as they have now won three games in a row. On Friday, they traveled to Minnesota and defeated the Timberwolves by a score of 109-97. Wayne Ellington of the Heat led the team in scoring in that game, as he picked up 21 points of his own. James Johnson also played well that day, picking up eight assists to contribute to the Heats’ blowout win. After that, Miami went to Chicago to face the Bulls. They came out on top again, this time by a score of 100-93. Dragic once again dominated offensively, scoring 24 points. The win against the Boston Celtics seems to have caused something to click for the Heat because they have been absolutely stellar these last few games. It will be interesting to see if they continue to perform as well as they have been.

Some players to look out for going forward for the Heat include Goran Dragic, who has demonstrated time and again that he can be very dangerous on offense, Denzel Valentine who led the team in both rebounds and assists in their most recent game against the Bulls, and Dion Waiters, who can perform both offensively and defensively as he has shown us this season. When this team really comes together, they have the potential to cause a lot of damage. The Miami Heat is definitely a team worth keeping an eye on as the season progresses.

Overall, the Boston Celtics still lead the Eastern Conference with a record of 18-4, followed by the Detroit Pistons who are 13-6. The Cleveland Cavaliers have managed to make their way into 3rd place, with a record of 13-7, and the Toronto Raptors are right with them with a 12-7 record. The top four teams are all very close, so it will be an intense rest of the season. Hey, that’s the NBA for you!
