The last week in MLB was focused on two teams who made the postseason making managerial moves for the 2018 campaign, and a slugger could be headed out west during the offseason.

New York Yankees Won’t Bring Back Girardi for 2018 Season

The New York Yankees will have a new manager next year as they decided to part ways with Joe Girardi a couple of days ago.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman released a statement about the managerial change, per David Lennon of Newsday:

Girardi, 53, accumulated a 910-710 in 10 years with the Yankees, the high point was winning the World Series championship in 2009.

The Yankees making the postseason were a surprise as this was expected to be a rebuilding year for them.

Girardi did make some questionable decisions during the playoffs, and it’s probable that wasn’t the only reason the Yankees opted to let him go but to have a fresh face for the future as well.

The Yankees are loaded with young talent on the major-league roster and have more in the minors.

The new manager will have high expectations for the storied franchise to bring a title to New York sooner rather than later.

Washington Nationals Hire Dave Martinez as New Manager

The Washington Nationals search for a new manager is over as the team has reportedly hired Dave Martinez to be their new skipper, per Chelsea Janes of the Washington Post.

The contract will be for three years and will an include an option.

The Nats let go of Dusty Baker earlier in the month after another early dismissal from the postseason.

Martinez has been Joe Maddon’s bench coach over the last several years with the Chicago Cubs and previously the Tampa Bay Rays.

The decision to hire Martinez is smart for the Nationals, considering he’s had the chance to learn from one of the best in Maddon.

Martinez will be judged by how well the Nats perform in the postseason as the team has struggled to advance beyond the National League Division Series in each of the past two years.

San Francisco Giants Are Favored to Acquire Stanton in Offseason

The San Francisco Giants had a disappointing 2017 season as they finished last in the NL West with a 64-98 record.

However, the Giants are the early favorite to acquire Miami Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton in the offseason, per Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.

Stanton is coming off a phenomenal 2017 campaign in which he compiled a .281 batting average and 1.007 OPS with 59 homers and 132 RBIs.

Stanton is owed a significant amount of money over the next several seasons, and it’s one reason the Marlins are interested in moving him.

The slugger is set to make $77 million over the next three seasons but can opt of the contract after the 2020 season.

Moving Stanton would help the Marlins improve a pitching staff that was 26th in the majors last year with a 4.82 ERA.

The Giants would add an impact bat to give their lineup some firepower as they were last in baseball with only 128 home runs.

Stanton will be a huge storyline for the offseason as every team in MLB would love to have his presence in their lineup.
