Williams and Gates Join Boston College Athletics Senior Administration

 

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Martin Jarmond, the William V. Campbell Director of Athletics at Boston College, announced today the hiring of Vaughn Williams as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Administration and Jocelyn Fisher Gates as Senior Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator.

Williams, who was recently named the 2016-17 Under Armour Athletics Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, returns to Boston College after serving six years as athletic director at Kennesaw State University (KSU). While at KSU, Williams formed the Kennesaw State Athletics Association, oversaw a re-branding of the Department of Athletics, signed a partnership with Adidas to be the official apparel provider of the Owls, and added women’s lacrosse and football as the University’s 17th and 18th intercollegiate sports.

Gates comes to Boston College from the University of South Florida where she served as the Bulls’ Senior Associate Athletic Director and SWA. She joined the University of South Florida staff in July of 2013 in the role of Assistant AD for Administration Gates was promoted to Senior Associate AD/SWA in May of 2014. In that role, she had oversight responsibilities for academics and student-athlete enhancement, and also served as the departmental Title IX Liaison. She had sports oversight for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s golf, football scheduling and served as secondary oversight for football.

“We are pleased to welcome Vaughn Williams back to Boston College and delighted to have Jocelyn join us in Chestnut Hill,” said Jarmond. “Any time you can add talented people, both of whom are former student-athletes who understand our commitment to serving and developing young people, it is a win for Boston College.

Williams is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and Minority Opportunities Athletic Association. He was appointed as the Atlantic Sun Conference representative to the NCAA Division I Council, and the Legislative Subcommittee. In 2016, he began a four-year term on the NIT Selection Committee.

“Boston College is a special place, which Vaughn knows first-hand,” said Jarmond. “That knowledge and familiarity made it possible for us to bring him back to BC.”

Gates joined USF after spending more than four years at Duke University as the Assistant Director for the Iron Dukes Annual Fund (2011-2013) and as Special Assistant to the Vice President/Director of Athletics (2009-2011). Prior to moving to Durham, Gates worked at the NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis as a Postgraduate Intern in the Diversity & Inclusion department.

“Jocelyn is a rising star in college athletics and has made a positive impact everywhere she’s been,” Jarmond added. “Her experience at USF, the NCAA and in the ACC working with Kevin White at Duke make her uniquely qualified to help move our athletics program forward. She will be a valuable asset to our student-athletes and staff.”

A 1992 graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Williams played football for the Minutemen and was honored among the sports management program’s distinguished alumni. He received a master’s degree from Boston College in 2002. Williams was the Assistant Athletic Director for Operations and Facilities at BC from 1998-2004.

A native of Wilmington, Del., Fisher is a 2003 graduate of Howard University where she lettered four seasons as a member of the women’s soccer program.  After receiving a degree in biology from Howard, she earned a master’s degree in kinesiology-sport psychology from Georgia Southern University in 2008.
