Boston College Spring Practice Report – March 30, 2017

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College football team finished its seventh practice of the spring inside the bubble at Alumni Stadium Thursday morning. The Eagles were on the practice field for just over two hours in full pads.

Head coach Steve Addazio was pleased with what he saw from the Eagles Thursday. “Just great and a lot of intensity,” Addazio said on Thursday’s practice. “Very, very physical and I just love the work and the attitude. We are starting to make plays on offense and play pressure defense. It is starting to look like a good football team.”

One position group that has continued to improve this spring has been the wide receivers. Despite not having starter Michael Walker this spring as he recovers from off-season injury, the unit has shown increased depth and dependable hands this spring. Wide receivers coach Rich Gunnell has been happy with the progress the Eagles are making.

“Guys are hanging in there and making some plays,” said Gunnell. “We have made more plays this spring compared to last spring and that’s encouraging. You can see guys making plays and having their confidence built up.”

Junior wide receiver Jeff Smith has shown glimpses of becoming one of the top targets in the ACC this fall as he continues the adjustment to wide receiver from quarterback. “He is starting to understand the position a little more but he still has a ways to go,” said Gunnell. “Jeff is so natural with his speed and quickness and has natural ball skills. He is developing well.”

While Boston College fans have yet to see redshirt freshman wide receiver Kobay White in a game, the Pennsylvania native has made a quick impression last fall and this spring with the coaches and is showing he could be a factor for BC in 2017.

“Kobay White is really coming on,” said Gunnell. “He showed flashes over the summer when he arrived and during the season but he is really starting to come on a little bit.”

White has shown tremendous athleticism throughout the spring and has given the Eagles an explosive option on the outside in the passing game.

Practice Notes: Despite the loss of two starters this spring on the offensive line, Addazio is pleased with the unit’s progress. “It is getting better and we are starting to really come together now,” Addazio added. Addazio commented on the strong play from juniors Chris Lindstrom, Aaron Monteiro, sophomore Elijah Johnson and redshirt freshman Shane Leonard this spring … BC returns to practice Saturday afternoon as Boston College also hosts a coaches’ clinic Saturday morning at the Yawkey Athletics Center.
