HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Seminoles struck first, scoring two in the first off freshman right-handed starter Matt Gill. Taylor Walls drew a four-pitch walk to start the game and Dylan Busby reached on an error to put two on before Gill got a fly ball for the first out. Quincy Nieporte knocked a base hit through the left side to plate Walls. Gill picked off Busby at second for the second out but allowed a double and walk to load the bases. The righty walked Nick Derr on a full count to bring in the second run. Gill forced a fly ball to end the inning.
  • The Eagles got one back in the top of the second. They loaded the bases on two walks and a fielder’s choice with a dropped ball at second. Bigras plated BC’s run with a single through the right side. Holton recorded back-to-back strikeouts to leave the bases loaded.
  • FSU chased Gill from the game in the second, scoring two more runs to make it a 4-1 game. He walked the first two batters of the inning before giving up an RBI double to left center Busby. Centerfielder Strem’s throw was errant, allowing a second run in. Junior RHP Brian Rapp relieved Gill and got two ground balls and an infield pop fly to hold the Seminoles.
  • The Noles scored two off Rapp in the fourth. They put two on with one out on base hits before Tyler Daughtry knocked one to left to score the first run. Derr hit a sac fly for the second score before Rapp got a grounder to end the inning.
  • The Noles added five runs in the sixth to make it an 11-1 game. Rapp allowed a lead-off double before sophomore LHP Zach Stromberg came on in relief. He gave up a double to plate a run. After a walk to put two on, JC Flowers hit a home run over the left-field wall. Stromberg got the first out with a fly ball but Wall hit a solo shot to left to increase the FSU lead.
