Against All Odds: NCAA Bowls/NFL Week 16

From opening week of the NFL season through the Super Bowl, Mr. Pittsburgh SportsNation, Mike Drakulich, takes on his father, Michael J. Drakulich (MJD), in picking 10 games against the Vegas spread. Pitt, Penn State, and West Virginia, when they are playing, will always be on the slate among the five NCAA games chosen, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, covered by Mike Drakulich for, will be included alongside 4 other exciting NFL match-ups.

Two weeks remain in the NFL till the playoffs begin, but Bowl Season is upon us starting this Saturday, and we are going to have every single game for you, so fasten your seat belts, the ride is about to begin.

For the second week in a row, I was above .500 in my picks, and once again, I gained a game on my dad who now holds a six game lead over me. I have a good feeling about his week’s picks, so I’m confident that by next week, I will be back above .500 overall. This week we have ten Bowl games through Thursday, and five NFL games. Some people complain about all of the games, but I love football, and never tire from watching it, though Tennessee-Jacksonville is pushing the boundaries…

Wednesday 12/24

Hawaii Bowl, Honolulu, HI.

(6-7) Fresno State (+2)  OVER  Rice (7-5), 8:00 PM /MJD picks Fresno State

(9-5) Pittsburgh (-3)  OVER  Kansas City (8-6), 1:00 PM/ MJD picks Pittsburgh

The  Steelers have the #1 offense in football. The trio of Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown, and Le’Veon Bell have been incredible all year. The Chiefs have trouble stopping the run, so look for Bell to carry the Steelers into the playoffs, and set up a huge match-up the final week against Cincinnati, with the winner of that game taking home the AFC North Division title.

(10-4) Detroit (-7)  OVER  Chicago (5-9), 1:00 PM/ MJD picks Detroit

Chicago is a team in chaos. Jay Cutler has been benched. The defense is horrible. Detroit will roll in this one.

(11-3) New England (-10.5)  OVER  NY Jets (3-11), 1:00 PM/ MJD picks New England

Rex Ryan usually has his teams play New England tough, but the Patriots are rolling. Tom Brady is gong to have a field day against the weak Jets secondary.

(10-4) Green Bay (-10.5)  OVER  Tampa Bay (2-12), 1:00 PM/ MJD picks Green Bay

Like the Patriots-Jets game, this is a total mismatch, and Green Bay should be out for blood after being handed their hat last week in Buffalo. Expect to smile a lot if you have Aaron Rodgers and Jordy Nelson in your fantasy championship games. Or tears if they are on the opposing team…

(8-6) Buffalo (-5.5)  OVER  Oakland (2-12), 4:25 PM/ MJD picks Buffalo

The Bills have been a pleasant surprise all year. They dusted Green Bay last week. Now they travel cross-country to visit Oakland. Technically, Buffalo still has a shot at the playoffs, so don’t expect a letdown in this one. Fred Jackson should have a good day against the Raiders D.
