Blackhawks take over Central with win over Preds

It has been a season of great delight in Nashville for hockey fans. The new look Predators are much more offensive minded. They play a lot more in the opponents zone and the play of golaie Pekka Rinne has been nothing short of spectacular.

On Saturday night, they had a chance to solidify their lead in the Central Division, against the Chicago Balckhawks. With a win, Chicago would take over the top spot from Nashville, so the teams ent to ice war.

The Blackhawks played a strong game as they skated well and got help from Matin Hossa and his two goals. Brandon Saad chipped in with a goal and an assist too. Chicago concetrated on playing shorter shifts against Nashville to stay fresh for the finish. They knew that a win at Bridgestone Arena does not come easy for teams that visit. This allowed Chicago to get off the a fast start and basically win the game in the first 40 minutes. They were fast and physical with the Predators and it paid off with their sixth straight win. Goalie Scott Darling had a huge game with 32 saves after a 41 save night against Montreala day earlier.

For Nashville, the lack of a power play continues to haunt them. They are 1-44 at home and just 8-34 on the road. Their inability to take advantage of the man advantage has kept this team from being even better than they already are. Granted, they were playing the best penalty killing team in the league. Still, in a fight for first place, the Preds failed to make a statement at home wher they have been almost unbeatable. A slow start in this game made it too hard to play catch up. Colin Wilson scored the lone goal for Nashville at 34 seconds in the the third period, but it just could not spark the Preds. It was just the second loss at home so far and they have not loss back-to-back games yet.

The Preds now play six of their next seven games on the road. They will see if they can get back the lead in the division, or at least stay close during this stretch. The six road games are against teams that the Preds should beat. A good raod stand here could help propel this team for the first half run.
