Against All Odds: NCAA/NFL Picks Week 6

Every week, Mr. Pittsburgh SportsNation, Mike Drakulich, takes on his father, Michael J. Drakulich (MJD), in picking 10 games against the Vegas spread. Pitt, Penn State, and West Virginia, when they are playing, will always be on the slate among the five NCAA games chosen, and the Pittsburgh Steelers, covered by Mike Drakulich for NGSCsports.com, will be included alongside 4 other exciting NFL match-ups.

Sweet Redemption. I was feeling pretty good about myself after last week’s picks, as I got the ball rolling and turned in a 7-2-1 mark for the week. Then I realized that despite that nice record, I still dropped a freaking game to my dad, who continues to bury me every week, as he went a stellar 8-1-1. If West Virginia’s RB doesn’t fumble inside the 5 yard line late in that game and Pitt converts on a late 2-point conversion (or perhaps if the incompetent referees in that game would’ve correctly called Chris Connor’s carry a touchdown…**see at end of article) dear ole dad would’ve finished a perfect 10-0.

This week, thankfully, I won’t be able to incorrectly pick my Panthers, as they are off until next Thursday against Virginia Tech. I’m sticking with WVU this week, despite them not being able to cover a -28 spread last week when they were up 26-0 at half! The Red Raiders have been squashed by every major opponent this year, and the trend will continue this week. Georgia Tech is 5-0 and looking pretty good after taking down Miami last week by 11. I like them against Duke who lost to the ‘Canes by 12 in their last game. Notre Dame should have no problem covering against North Carolina, who has gotten taken behind the woodshed the past three games. Alabama is going to be in a foul mood after losing a heart breaker to Ole Miss last week. Arkansas fans may wanna get a good buzz going before this one. Michigan was always a team I rooted for growing up next to Pitt. Then Rich Rodriguez was hired and the Wolverines haven’t been the same since. What a shame. Brady Hoke is just as terrible. I want to scratch my eyes out picking Penn State in this one at Ann Arbor, but I have no choice.

The Steelers made me sweat it out last week against Jacksonville, but mistakes and penalties kept it closer than it should’ve been. Now a resurgent Cleveland team is looking for revenge at home against Pittsburgh. The Steelers will be focused for this one, so expect the Dawg Pound to go home bitter once again. Tom Brady and New England destroyed the previously unbeaten Bengals. Should’ve known the Bengals would Bungle eventually. They’ll dispatch the Bills up in Buffalo with ease. Green Bay and Jordy Nelson should have some fun offensively against Miami. I like the Pack on the road. In fact, I like all the teams on the road this week, as does Vegas. Denver and Peyton Manning will have no problem beating the hapless Jets by double digits. Tampa looked as if they would win their second straight game until New Orleans came storming back. That had to be a big let down. Baltimore will pound the Buccaneers this week.

With five games with opposing opinions this week between my dad and I, someone is going to be greatly disappointed next week…

**If this isn’t a touchdown, I don’t know what is. How on earth can these refs, with a million TV angles get these calls wrong?
