AFC South Week 2 Preview

The regular NFL season is back and we are here to provide you with your AFC South Week 2 preview. So let’s take a look around the division at the Week 2 match-ups. We also give you our score predictions.

Dallas Cowboys at Tennessee Titans

Kickoff is Sunday at noon CST

LP Field in Nashville, Tennessee

Broadcast on Fox

The winless Cowboys travel to Nashville to take on AFC South leader the Tennessee Titans in a game that Vegas thinks is closer than most experts. The Cowboys looked awful in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score suggested against the San Francisco Forty Niners in Week 1. Tony Romo threw three picks and took three sacks in that loss and looked out of sync all game. The Titans on the other hand looked solid and efficient in their win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Cowboys offensive line struggled particularly on the left side and the Titans were effective getting to the quarterback in Week 1. If they can get consistent pressure and force Romo into making mistakes it could be a long game for the Cowboys particularly on defense where they are thin, having just lost Justin Durant for a few games.

Final score prediction:

Cowboys  17

Titans 28

Houston Texans at Oakland Raiders

Kickoff is Sunday at 3:25 p.m. CST

O.co Coliseum in Oakland, California

Broadcast on CBS

The Raiders have wisely decided to #StarttheCarr and take on the Raiders who lost on the road to the New York Jets in Week 1. Tough defense in which to make your first NFL start but Carr was fairly efficient and did throw two touchdowns and did not turn the ball over. The Texans look for their second win which would match their win total from last season where they also started 2-0 and then proceeded to lose their final 14 games.

The Raiders run game was putrid against a good Jets defense averaging only one yard per carry and putting up only 25 total rushing yards. This does not bode well against the Texans who should still be good on defense despite the loss of Ja’Daveon Clowney. Ryan Fitzpatrick was efficient in his first start as a Texan throwing a touchdown and not turning the ball over though he did fumble once. The Texans will need “good” Fitzmagic to continue to show up if they want to make a run in the AFC South.

Both teams covered in their Week 1 matchups. The current Vegas line has the Texans giving up three with the homefield advantage so it’s basically even. The weather is expected to be warm with the highs in the 80s.

Final score prediction:

Raiders 13

Texans 21

Philadelphia Eagles at Indianapolis Colts

Monday Night Football 7:30 CST

Lucas Oil Stadium Indianapolis, Indiana

Broadcast on ESPN

The Eagles and the Colts both got down early in their Week 1 games but the Eagles were able to come back against Jacksonville from a seventeen point deficit and win rather handily 34-17. The Colts rally fell short as they fell  31 to 24 to the Denver Broncos. While the Eagles defense doesn’t appear much better this year, they are loaded on offense and have the ability to outscore just about any team. They should get plenty of opportunity against a rather weak Colts defense.

Andrew Luck should have success against the Eagles defense but the Colts look to be outmatched in this one.  The Eagles run game should give the Colts defense fits while their secondary tries to cover all their offensive weapons. Broncos tight end Julius Thomas scored three touchdowns on this Colts defense so Zach Ertz could be in for a big game.

Vegas currently has the Colts plus three with the home field advantage so it’s basically even. The weather is expected to be good with a high in the lower 70s and a low of 51 degrees Fahrenheit. The Colts will be without linebacker Robert Mathis who was serving a four game suspension when he tore his Achilles tendon while working out. The Colts could also be without linebacker Jerrell Freeman and defensive lineman Arthur Jones.

Final score prediction:

Eagles 35

Colts 28

Jacksonville Jaguars at Washington Redskins

Kickoff is Sunday at noon CST

Fedex Field Landover, Maryland

Broadcast on CBS

The Jacksonville Jaguars yielded a 17 point deficit to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1 and must learn to seal the deal if they are going to make noise in the division this year. Chad Henne’s days are numbered as his inability to get the offense going in the second half was telling. Cecil Shorts probably won’t play this Sunday as he is listed as doubtful and Johnathan Cyprien is out with a concussion.

Washington has injury issues of its own with tight end Jordan Reed out also with a hamstring and linebacker Akeem Jordan out with a knee injury. Linebacker Brian Orakpo, tackle Tyler Polumbus, and safety Duke Ihenacho are all listed as questionable. Washington will need quarterback Robert Griffin III to play well in order to have a chance to win this game.

Neither team is very good right now and the line is currently Washington -6. The weather is expected to be nice with temperatures in the mid 70s.
