Cavs add depth, gets commitment from Marion

In a summer where the the city Cleveland are already rejoicing over the return of their hero LeBron James, the Cavs are about to add another key veteran piece to the puzzle as sources indicate free agent forward Shawn Marion has committed to the team.

No numbers have been disclosed as the source has spoken on the condition of anonymity but with Marion and the belief that within the next week or so Kevin Love will be officially traded to Cleveland for #1 pick Andrew Wiggins, the Cavaliers have positioned themselves as the clear cut favorites in the Eastern Conference once the 2014-15 season gets under way.

Marion had garnered interest from other teams like the Indiana Pacers, Miami Heat and Los Angeles Clippers but decided to bring his versatility, and defensive prowess to a team that while may be the odd on favorite in Vegas to win the NBA title, many believe has a major hole defensively as a ball club. Marion addresses some of those possible issues. He has made it clear that if he left Dallas, he wanted to play for a contender right now.

Marion averaged 10.4 ppg 6.5 rebs while starting 76 games for the Dallas Mavericks. He will now join the Heat in what is looking to be a team ready to compete for an NBA title now. It was a smart move by Marion if he wants to win himself another title. The chance to play alongside LeBron James at this point is too much of an allure. Marion will find himself in a place where he will not be expected to do the things he once did. He will now play his minutes and become a contributor to a team many think should be in the Finals this year.
