AFC North Training Camp Standouts

Training camp is underway and before we know it another season will be upon us. Lets take a look at the early season standouts at AFC North camps, and what this means for their team.

AFC North Training Camp Standouts

Cincinnati Bengals: RB  Jeremy Hill, QB Andy Dalton

As expected, the torch has been passed from BenJarvis Green-Ellis to LSU rookie Jeremy Hill as the lead power back for the Bengals. Hill and fellow rusher Giovanni Bernard have split first team carries throughout training camp and have left very few for Green-Ellis during the early portion of camp. Hill and Bernard have shine throughout camp and so has incumbent starting QB, Andy Dalton.  Overall, fans were excited with Dalton’s display of accuracy early in camp.

Cleveland Browns: QB Brian Hoyer, CB Justin Gilbert

So far it seems like Brian Hoyer has been exceptionally sharp during Browns camp. Hoyer’s approach has been a blend of  his early mastery of coach Mike Pettine’s playbook and a touch of swagger. So far, the Hoyer is the elected starter and is expected to carry that title throughout campy. Johnny Manziel was seen running some read option and has displayed some impressive arm strength. Another standout was Browns rookie, Justin Gilbert who has impressed many with his athleticism so far.

Baltimore Ravens: OLB Terrell Suggs, RB Bernard Pierce

The early consensus by camp observers is that Bernard Pierce has been a camp standout so far. Pierce arrived to camp a few pounds lighter and his playing style is a smoother transition to Gary Kubiak’s offensive game plan. If he continues the way he’s started, expect Ray Rice’s carry’s to see a slight decline when he returns from his suspension in week three. It shouldn’t shock anyone that Terrell Suggs is also a standout in camp, he’s been exploiting Eugene Monroe and the rest of the Ravens offensive line in pass protection as well as run blocking.

Pittsburgh Steelers: RB/WR Dri Archer, OLB Ryan Shazier

Ben Roethlisberger entered camp in what is most likely the best shape of his life and he will have some great help in the backfield. Rookie running back, Dri Archer impressed the crowd with his speed and short area quickness. With fellow rusher Le’Veon Bell nursing a minor injury, LeGarette Bount has assumed most of the first team rushing responsibilities. Blount and rookie linebacker Ryan Shazier have demanded the attention of many onlookers at Steelers camp and have met for some very rough collisions.

Be on the lookout to see how these players evolve throughout camp and into the early part of the season.
