Fantasy Flash Week 12: Pickups

Week 12 Pickups:

Josh McCown – It looks like Jay Cutler has a more serious ankle injury that previously thought. He has already been ruled out for week 12 and may not see the field against till week 14. McCown has done a good job and has a good schedule, so take advantage of it.

Case Keenum – The Texans seems to love Matt Schaub, I’m not sure why, maybe it’s the money they are paying him. If they just take a look at only on-field production, the battle isn’t even close. As their horrible season comes to an end, they will be forced to see what Keenum brings to the table.

Scott Tolzien – This is a pickup only for 2 people, the ones that have Rodgers and the ones that couldn’t get either of the other 2 recommendations above. Tolzien has played better than his numbers indicate and he’s getting a weak Minnesota defense, at home.

Bobby Rainey – Last week I suggested both Brian Leonard and Bobby Rainey because Mike James went down and it wasn’t clear who would be the new bell cow for Tampa Bay. We quickly found that answer out on Sunday and Rainey was spectacular. You’ll have to be at the top of the waiver list to get him.

Montee Ball – For the people who haven’t noticed, Ball is quietly taking more and more snaps away from Moreno. I still don’t think the Denver offense is a good fit for his running style, but they will be in the red zone a lot and he seems to be their preferred goalline back.

Toby Gerhart – The theme of this week is precautionary pickups. Adrian Peterson is not normal with his groin injury. The Vikings are not really a serious playoff contender right now. Teams stack the box against Minnesota, Add these 3 things up and AP may not be running “All Day” too much longer.

Miles Austin – The lost, forgotten, Cowboy now seems like he is ready to contribute to the team once again. After a bye week, it looks like Austin will be cutting into the time of Terrence Williams. Austin is a more polished route runner and Terrence has slowed down after his hot start.

Michael Crabtree – The #1 WR for SF last year is finally starting to practice. They technically have until this week to activate him from the PUP. It looks like that is exactly what’s about to happen. He’s a younger, slightly less physical version of A.Boldin. At worst, he improves the talent of the WR group.

Nate Burleson – He’s another one that looks to be coming off the IR list soon. The WR group in Detroit is not very good outside Megatron. Even though Stafford likes throwing to his former college teammate Kris Durham, Burleson is more consistent and overall a better player.

Garrett Graham – Even with the QB switch and all the crap going on in Houston, Graham had a breakout game for 136 and a TD. The TE is always a rookie’s best friend and even though Keenum hasn’t officially used him the best way so far, last week’s performance may stick in the rook’s head.

Baltimore – There aren’t too many great matchups this week for streaming defenses. The Ravens take on the Jets who can be very on off depending on the week. It makes for at least a solid shot in the dark that they can get 3-4 sacks and 2-3 turnovers with a ceiling for more.

Green Bay – As I said, the options are not that good this week. The Packers are playing against a Viking team that doesn’t really know their QB, their star RB is hurt and not running well, and their defense gives up a lot of points. It’s an equation that can lead to the Packers racking up sacks.

Those are your pickups for week 12 in the NFL.
