AFC and NFC South Previews: Week 8

These are the AFC and NFC South previews for week 8 in the NFL

Carolina Panthers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Thursday Night Football)

On Thursday, Carolina travels to Tampa Bay to face a winless, struggling Buccaneer team and this time, they will be without their star RB Doug Martin. Last week, Martin tore his labrum in his shoulder and it’s being said that he will be done for the year. He has gone to get a 2nd opinion before making it official. The Panthers have been playing well, especially on defense. This is an important road game if they want to make looked at as serious playoff contenders. I think the Panthers will find a way to come out of this one with their 3rd straight win before heading into a big AFC South battle against the Falcons next week.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (London, England)

Chip Chip, Cheerio and all that good stuff and the 49ers and Jaguars make that long trip over to London to play in front of a huge crowd in Wembley Stadium. The 49ers have really gotten on track as of late, winning 4 in a row after their brutal opening 3 games. The Jaguars have probably been the worst team in the league. They have FINALLY done the smart thing and benched Blaine Gabbert for good. Chad Henne gives them the best chance to win, but I don’t see any way they can win this week. As a matter of fact, a betting man would probably give the 17 pt spread the Niners are getting.

Buffalo Bills at New Orleans Saints

Buffalo has a lot to be proud of with this Bills team. Between injuries to their 4 best offensive players (Spiller, S.Johnson, Manuel, and F.Jackson) they have played tough and forced for the Browns to the edge in Thaddeus Lewis 1st start and then beat the Dolphins on the road last week. The Saints finally lost their 1st game of the year 2 weeks ago, and it was in crushing fashion, as Tom Brady and the Patriots scored with under 10 seconds to go to shock the Saints late. The have faced a semi easy schedule and that will continue this week and next week. Expect them to get out early to try to break the will of Buffalo.

Atlanta Falcons at Arizona Cardinals

Atlanta finally got a much needed win last week, although it wasn’t as easy as the final score may have looked. They still have a lot of issues on defense and with Julio Jones out and Roddy White hurt, they will be limited on offense. However, this week, it looks like both Roddy White and Steven Jackson will be making their return to the lineup, but it’s hard to expect too much so soon. The Cardinals play much better at home than they do on the road. Their defense has played well, but their offense turns the ball over too much. For them to keep this close, they must control the time of possession and limit the turnovers.
