NFC East game preview: Week 5

The NFL calendar has now switched to October and it means that the first full month of the 2013 season is officially in the books. Week 5 of the 2013 NFL season is officially upon us and in the NFC East, there are still more questions than answers for all four teams in the division. The Washington Redskins are on the bye week which means only the New York Giants, Philadelphia Eagles, and Dallas Cowboys are in action in the NFC East. Two of the three teams are facing each other this weekend with a lot on the line as the first third of the regular nears completion.

Philadelphia Eagles (1-3) vs New York Giants (0-4)

When the 2013 season began, no one would have fathom that the Giants and Eagles would be a combined 1-7. The Giants offensive line woes have been well documented and now with guard Chris Snee and center David Baas out for Sunday’s game, it only leaves even more question marks for an offensive line that has not only failed to protect Eli Manning, but also help establish the running game. The Eagles have not been able to execute their up-tempo offense since Week 1 against the Redskins. With the Eagles having suffered three consecutive losses and the Giants having yet won a game this season, it will be interesting to see how the Giants deal with their current adversity and get their first win of the season or will the Eagles snap their three game losing streak and send the Giants to 0-5

Denver Broncos (4-0) vs Dallas Cowboys (2-2)

It is no secret that Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has been on some historic run through the first four games of the season throwing 16 touchdown passes and no interceptions. Manning is simply the best quarterback in the NFL and is one of the major reasons why the Broncos are undefeated so far this season. The Cowboys will have their hands full on Sunday with trying to gameplan how to shut down Peyton Manning and the high powered Broncos offense. The Cowboys must utilize their pass rush and rattle Manning if they are going to attempt to slow him down. It will be fascinating to see what happens if Manning can add to his historic run and to see if the Cowboys can and will upset the Broncos
