Fantasy Football Blog – Week 2 Starts n’ Sits/Free Agency

Plenty of surprises in the first week.  The NFL has definitely become a passing league.  There were only two rushers that hit the century mark. That’s it. Just two.  But remember, it’s only one week.  Don’t panic when it comes to your elite rushers.  It’s a long season and they will get their share.  Wide receivers were a deep position during preseason, but after this week it got even deeper.  Week 1 is in the past, time to look into the future for week 2.

Free Agent Pickups

Julian Edelman, WR New England – 7 grabs for 79 yards and 2 TDs.  Danny Amendola is expected to miss the next game with a groin injury.  Edelman will become Brady’s go to receiver and play out of the slot with Amendola out.

Brian Hartline, WR Miami – 9 grabsfor 114 yards and 1 TD.  Hartline is a better receiver than most people give him credit for.  He developed good chemistry last year with Tanneyhill and that looks like it has carried over to this year.  Mike Wallace is drawing a lot of double coverage which frees up Hartline.  Miami is going to throw a lot this year.

Julius Thomas, TE Denver – 5 grabs for 110 yards and 2 TDs.  He got the start after Joel Dressen and Jacob Tamme were still dealing with injuries.  Peyton loves to throw to the middle of the field.  Think back when Peyton made Dallas Clark a premier tight end back with the Colts.  Thomas has top 5 potential as long as he can stay healthy.

Week 2 Starts

Stevan Ridley, RB New England – He had fumbling issues early in the game and Belichick put him in the doghouse.  Shane Vereen suffered a broken wrist and will likely miss the next four weeks.  Belichick doesn’t have much options left.  With a struggling aerial attack, Ridley should have an ample amount of opportunities.

Terrelle Pryor, QB Oakland – He wasn’t an efficient passer by any means but it’s his running game that boosts his stock.  He passed for 217 yards and 1 TD with 2 INT but he also carried the ball 13 times for 112 yards.  He should have plenty of time to throw and plenty of room to run this week against a terrible Jacksonville team.

Eddie Lacy, RB Green Bay – He is starting to look more and more like a three down back.  He is the undisputed starter and will also get first crack at the goal line.  By the way the Redskins gave up over 250 yards on the ground in their week one debut against the Eagles.

Week 2 Sits

CJ Spiller, RB Buffalo – It looks like the Bills are splitting the workload in their backfield.  I’m not telling you to bench him by any means but with Fred Jackson taking away some of the carries it’s going to be hard for Spiller to live up to his first round expectations.  Plus, Carolina’s front seven is arguably one of the tops in the league.  They held Marshawn Lynch to 43 yards on 17 carries.

Eric Decker, WR Denver – He missed a couple of touchdown passes from Peyton.  Overall there is too much talent and options in Denver.  Decker will see minimal amount of targets when you have the likes of Demaryius  Thomas, Wes Welker, and now Julius Thomas to compete with.

Josh Freeman, QB Tampa Bay – I’m just not sold on Freeman being an every week starter.  His inconsistency is his biggest downfall.  He went 15 of 31 for 210 yards and 1 TD with 1 INT.  Those numbers are pretty mediocre.  I think the Saints will get a big lead and force Freeman to turn over the ball multiple times.
